Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights (2007)

01. 100 Days, 100 Nights
02. Nobody's Baby
03. Tell Me
04. Be Easy
05. When The Other Foot Drops, Uncle
06. Let Them Knock
07. Something's Changed
08. Humble Me
09. Keep On Looking
10. Answer Me

This was the backing band on Amy Winehouse's last album, but don't hold that against them. 100 Days, 100 Nights came out in 2007 but sounds like it's from the 60's. Sharon Jones knows how to do it.

"Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are a funk/soul band. They are signed to Daptone Records, where the Dap-Kings are the house band (Sharon Jones, the singer, has been singing since the '70s and was even a prison guard for a while). Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are widely thought to be spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Part of the way this is achieved is to shun modern digital recording methods in favour of using traditional analogue recording equipment. The type of instruments used by the band may also be considered limited to those that would have been available up until the mid seventies."

The song "All That I Want" was on an Old Navy Christmas commercial, so they have that cute Ingrid Michaelson vibe. Not recommended for dudes. I mean, their name is The Weepies, and the album is called Happiness, that's a little gay. But girls will really like it.

"Jona Bechtolt is a Young American Challenging High Technology, known as much for his effeminate, wildly sexual "dancing" as for creating damaging beats and weird visuals. Hot on the heels of the release of The Blow's Paper Television, which Bechtolt co-wrote and played all of the instruments on, I Believe In You. Your Magic Is Real. is the next step for YACHT. His twelve new catchy creations boast addictive beats and positive, memorable lyrics, including lyrics by David Shrigley, Deerhoof's designer. Jona Bechtolt has toured with and created music for The Blow, Devendra Banhart & The Hairy Fairy, Devendra Banhart & The Queens of Sheeba, Little Wings, Thanksgiving, The Microphones/Mt Eerie, Mirah, and more."

Alphabeat - Alphabeat

06. Boyfriend
07. Ocean Blue

09. The Hours
10. Nothing But My Baby

(change hxxp to http, .zip, .mp3)

This band is FUUUNNNN. "Alphabeat is, in despite of their relative short existence, already well-known for their great engangement and their always good mood. Their music can make everyone smile, and give even the most shy the guts to dance in front of everybody... There are six of them, they're from Denmark and this is their self-explanatory theme tune. Primary colored pop that burbles on about "Major Tom" and "space troopers", it suggests that their mission statement - "the love child of the B-52s and Wham produced by Nile Rodgers” - is spot on. They're currently on tour in the UK and there's more where this came from in the New Year."

They haven't ever toured the US and I've never met anyone that's heard of them, so get on it.
